FAQs:

Q: Can I self-refer to the IOP?

A: No, individuals accepted into the IOP have been evaluated and are under the care of a provider in one of our outpatient behavioral health clinics.

Q: Is this program open to dependents or children?

A: No, at this time the Fort Wainwright IOP is only open to active duty service members from all branches of the military. We do have affiliations with civilian programs that are similar to our IOP that do accept dependents and children. These programs are in Anchorage and the lower 48 states.

Q: Is IOP an all-day program?

A: No. Hours are 0800 to 1200 Monday through Wednesday, and Thursdays which are 0930 to 1200. No IOP on Friday.

Q: Can I only go for 1 or 2 weeks rather than 5?

A: All service members are initially committed to attend for five weeks in order to be accepted into the program. Situations and personal changes certainly happen, and no one is forced to continue if they choose not to do so.

Q: Will my command know that I am in the IOP?

A: Yes, this is a command supported program, meaning your commander must be willing to support your absence from the unit and participation in the program for four hours a day and for five weeks duration. This is a large time commitment by the individual and the unit. The commander’s approval is part of the requirements for acceptance into the program.
