FT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - –
At 40 weeks pregnant, when Raini Fitch began feeling the signs of a urinary tract infection, she knew she needed medical care, but, with an 18-month-old daughter and no childcare to speak of, Fitch did not want to go to the emergency room, especially for a non-emergency issue.
“I never go to the doctor or bring my children in unless it’s absolutely necessary,” said Fitch, “so I began looking for other resources.”
Through social media, Fitch heard about two virtual healthcare options covered by TRICARE, Dr+ on Demand and PM Pediatrics Anywhere. Going to the app store and downloading the Dr+ on Demand app to her mobile phone, Fitch was able to sign up quickly.
“It was easy signing up and so simple for me,” said Fitch. “Just an email, some basic information and our benefits number.”
Even easier than signing up was getting an appointment.
“I had a virtual appointment within three minutes,” said Fitch. During the appointment, which was over video, the provider was able to assess her symptoms and prescribe medication for Fitch to pick up at her convenience.
Fitch said she also has the app for PM Pediatrics Anywhere, and will be using that at times for her children.
“I love this service,” said Fitch. “I will definitely be using it again.”
